Hey Friends,

This Saturday on 2nd June 2012, I am riding from Juhu to Worli Sea Face and back ....

I will ride from Juhu via Linking Road, Bandra (Lucky) , Mahim Church, Siddhivinayak, Worli Seaface (Milk Factory) ...Return the same way..

The meeting point is at The Triangle at 5:45 am and depart by 6:00 am SHARP. I am extremely punctual ! We should Return around 8:00 am.

Suggestions - Have some good breakfast and also get your self hydrated before the trip. Carry water/energy drink/ biscuits or banana along with you on the ride.

Helmets are compulsory (for your own safety)

All those who wish to join enroute, please sms or put it here on the wall.

This is an open event where there will be no Leaders or Organizers we ride together as a group taking care of ourselves & each other.

To spread the green movement, SAHAKARI BHANDAR are planning a Cyclothon :

“Cycle to Recycle” on 3rd June Sunday as part of our world environment day program. The cycle rally with around 100 cyclists will start from Worli Dairy at 8.00 am and via Kedell Road and Shivaji Park come to Sahakari Bhandar, Agar Bazaar by 8.45am.

From Sahakari Bhandar Agar Bazaar, a new group of cyclists will cycle to Sahakari Bhandar, Matunga via Tilak Bridge and reach there by 9.45 am.

Route Plan
Route 1 - Worli Dairy – Hotel Blue Sea – Century Prabhadevi – Siddhivinayak – Sahakari Bhandar Agar Bazaar.

Route 2 – Sahakari Bhandar Agar Bazaar – Cadell Road – Shivaji Park Gymkhana – Sena Bhavan – Plaza – Dadar TT – King circle – Sahakari Bhandar Matunga

We are organising experienced cycle guides around 10 to be part of the rally to ensure that cyclists move smoothly along the route. On route, we will make two stops to collect empty recyclable waste and have a special delivery van follow up to carry the cartons.

Plz follow these points while biking it really helps. I have benifitted a lot from the same.

1. Make sure your bike fits. Handlebars, saddle, wheels, gears, and brakes can all be adjusted to match your size and riding ability, but the frame has to fit from the start. To find the right frame size, straddle the bike and stand flatfooted: on a road bike, there should be one to two inches of clearance between your groin and the top tube. On a mountain bike, the clearance should be two to three inches or even more.

2. Position the saddle right to protect your knees. At the bottom of the stroke, your knee should be only slightly bent. If your knee is bent too much, the seat is too low, and you will lose stroking power and strain your knees. If the knee locks when extended, or if you have to reach for the pedal, the seat is too high, which can also stress the knee. The saddle should be level.

3. Position the handlebars correctly—one inch lower than the top of the seat. Drop handlebars (preferable because they allow you to change your riding position) should be about as wide as your shoulders or slightly narrower. Some cyclists who suffer from neck or back discomfort may prefer upright handlebars.

4. To avoid saddle soreness, get the right seat. The hard narrow seats on racing bikes can be particularly uncomfortable for women, who tend to have widely spaced “sit bones.” Special anatomically designed saddles—wider and more cushioned at the back—are easy to install. Gel-filled saddles or pads or sheepskin pads can ease the pressure and friction.

5. Change your hand and body position frequently. That will change the angle of your back, neck, and arms, so that different muscles are stressed and pressure is put on different nerves.

6. Don’t ride in the racing “drop” position (with your hands on the curved part of the handlebars) for a long time. This may cramp your hands, shoulders, and neck.

7. Unless you’re an experienced cyclist, don’t use those special aerodynamic handlebars—shaped like an upside-down “V”—which let you lean forward on your forearms and thus reduce wind drag and increase your speed. These increase the risk of injury.

8. After a long uphill, don’t coast downhill without pedaling. As you climb up the hill, lactic acid builds up in your muscles and can contribute to muscle soreness. By pedaling lightly but constantly while coasting downhill (even if there’s little resistance) you can help remove the lactic acid.

9. Keep your arms relaxed and don’t lock your elbows. This technique helps you absorb bumps from the road better.

10. Wear the right shorts if you cycle a lot. Sleek cycling shorts have less fabric to wrinkle or bunch up, so there’s less chance of skin irritation. For extra protection, choose cycling shorts with special lining or padding to wick away perspiration and no seams at the crotch.

11. Don’t wear headphones. They can block out the street sounds

Buying a cycle in Mumbai

Buying a cycling in mumbai is a very difficult task
1) There are very few cycle shop and difficult to find (unless you know where they are located)

I could not find a single cyle shop at vile parle west - sv road till andheri station .

In the small lane near andheri station there is sardar cycle shop ( super heavy cycles costing 7500)

I wanted to buy a foldable cycle (as it is impossible to find place to park a cycle in the building - where there is no place for even cars) . Sadly found that the Mount mary cycle shop in bandra which was listed on the dahon site had shut down - still called the number and found the guy pretty helpful .

The other two shops are a small shop near the andheri sports complex near apna bazaar/esic nagar
and AZIZA Cycle shops which is the best in the area .

AZIZ is run by a guy called rizwan who was pretty helpful

The cheapest cycle was a formas racer cycle costing around 5,500 Rupees without gears and around 6,500 with gears.

The lightest cycle was a firefox with 21 gear costing about 10,300 Rupees

Helmet costs 1050 rupees
Speedometer cost 450 rupees
Cycle lock cost around 200 -400 rupees
Gel cycle seat (this is important of you butt will pain a lot ) - 500 approx (from hypercity malad)

Hypercity has some good accessories and cycline like max it and raleigh
